Force-extension curves!

Posted 20 December 2005 by PhilipJ under &

There is good news to report, and not just that the judge ruled against allowing intelligent design in Dover’s classrooms (more here and here)—I’ve finally pulled on some DNA, and only a little bit after I predicted I would! Here it is:

While ten years ago this was Science material, today it is mostly just a calibration tool for optical tweezers instruments. Either way, this is a huge first step (dare I say a paradigm shift?) for our new lab, and a necessary step before starting our independent research projects.

Okay, back to analyzing the data! Once I have a sensible fit, I’ll post again on the various elasticity models that are commonly used, and what exactly they can tell us about DNA!
