While we scientists are normally a fairly reserved bunch, there have been a few rather famous examples of our boisterous side, such as Tycho BrahÃ©’s silver nose fiasco, or the untimely death of mathematician Evariste Galois in a duel over a woman. Even so, on the whole I think we’re a pretty tame bunch. Not so with the IDiots, reports Bob Park in this week’s What’s New:
Last Friday, WN noted that a course at the University of Kansas, “Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious Mythologies,” had been cancelled. Early Monday, Paul Mirecki, a religious-studies professor who was to teach the course, was stopped by two men on a rural road and beaten.
