Have you ever been heeding nature’s call and thought to yourself “Gosh, it sure is tragic that all this potentially useful urine is going to be wasted as soon as I flush the toilet.”? Well, incredibly, you’re not alone!* In this week’s Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore are reporting the creation of a urine-activated battery that could find use in disposable home medical tests. The article has a little “free” logo next to it, so maybe it’s available without a subscription but I’m guessing that won’t last for ever so get it while it’s hot (or, at least lukewarm).
*Well, you probably are alone, but I’m sure you catch the drift of my predictable over-enthusiastic prose.
